Southampton Area Men in Early Years (SAMEY)

As we now have a logo, I suppose we must be official! It’s been a busy few months. I have spoken at a conference in London; joined with the London Men in Childcare network; several of us were interviewed for a phd research project; I recorded a podcast for a website; I was interviewed on the Jeremy Vine Radio 2 show; we have several invitations into Southampton schools to talk at careers events and to go in to talk to students. I have also talked to lots of men working with young children and heard passionate and personal stories as to why they see what we do as a vocation – making a difference in young lives. Our strapline is ‘Boys and girls need men and women’ At the moment, the Early Years workforce is 98% female – we still have a way to go!!

At the weekend, I sneaked onto the stage at the Nursery World Awards, as part of the London Men in Childcare contingent who won the Inclusive Practice category. What a great platform for us men.

We would be delighted to link up with anyone, male or female, interested in our activities.
